Working Principle

Tracheostomy creates a permanent or temporary opening in the trachea to assist patient breathing. Postoperatively, the tracheostomy tube connects directly to the outside environment; most inhaled and exhaled air bypasses the larynx, pharynx, and nasal cavity, entering and exiting the body solely through the stoma.

Normal vocalization relies on pulmonary airflow passing upward through the vocal cords to cause vibration. However, with a tracheostomy, airflow bypasses the larynx, depriving the vocal cords of sufficient airflow to vibrate—resulting in difficulty speaking or complete loss of voice.

The Tracheostomy Speaking Valve features a one-way valve structure with the following mechanism:
